Operation Allies Welcome - Operation Allies Refuge

Capt. Nguyenvy Dang, company commander for Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, poses for a photo during an interview about his family's experience as Vietnamese refugees at Fort Bliss’ Doña Ana Complex in New Mexico, Sept. 21, 2021. Dang’s company is responsible for Life Support Areas 5 and 6 which house approximately 1,700 Afghan evacuees. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible. This initiative provides Afghan personnel essential support at secure locations outside Afghanistan. (U.S. Army photo by Staff Sgt.
