Sgt. Maj. Julie Saorrono, command sergeant major, U.S. Army Contracting Command (Left), hands a challenge coin to Staff Sgt. Kyle Greene, contracting officer, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Center), as a part of Operation Allies Welcome (OAW) on Fort Pickett, Virginia, Sept. 22, 2021. The Service members received these coins because they displayed exceptional qualities in their work in their support of OAW. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
