Lt. Cmdr. Ann Monasky, a dentist from Combat Logistics Battalion, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, and Petty Officer 3rd Class Dominique Banks, a CLB-31 dental technician, conduct a tooth extraction on a patient. To cultivate long-lasting friendships with the Cambodian people, Marines and Sailors of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and the amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2), with medical staff from the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, arrived with medical and dental supplies to provide medical care for the local community, Nov. 27-30. As this medical and dental civic action project provided basic medical and dental relief to local residents, the medical and dental staff treated more than 1,000 patients and prescribed medication varying from pain medicines and multi-vitamins to antibiotics.
