The New Orleans District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is working to remove obstructions from the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway as part of the response and recovery efforts following Hurricane Ida.

The Gulf Intracoastal Waterway is the third third-busiest inland waterway in the United States, and runs along the Gulf Coast from Brownsville, Texas, to the Florida Panhandle.

The New Orleans District's navigation efforts focus on both inland and coastal waterways, including the Mississippi River and Outlets at Venice, the Calcasieu River Ship Channel, the Atchafalaya River Delta, and the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway between Mississippi and Texas.
