    Operation Allies Welcome - Operation Allies Refuge   

    The 593rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command Commander, Col. Martine S. Kidd, recognized several key task force supporters for their logistical help during Operation Allies Welcome at the U.S. Geological Survey center in Herndon, Virginia, Sept. 14, 2021. The eight recipients were each presented with a certificate of appreciation for their necessary efforts. Recipients included the following: Troy Miller and Charles Gunn, both from the U.S. General Services Administration Information Technology office; Michael Hartzell, the operations manager for National Capital District; Cody Crowder and Ethan Coddington, both from the USO; Darren Blue, the regional commissioner for GSA Region 11; Kasey Melton, a senior project manager with the GSA; Brian Wachter, chief of management services at USGS; and Derek Briggs, chief of facilities at USGS. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
