U.S. Marine Corps Pfc. Myles Jenkins, administration clerk, (Right), and Lance Cpl. Robert Dunn, administration clerk, with 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, set up cots on Fort Pickett, Virginia, Sept. 11, 2021. The Marines are preparing for the arrival of the command element and other supporting units from the 2d Marine Division – the collective team which will be providing support to Operation Allies Welcome. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
