SOUTH CHINA SEA – USNS Tippecanoe (T-AO 199) conducts an underway replenishment with HMAS Anzac (FFH 150), in the South China Sea, Sept. 5. The Royal Australian Navy’s long-range frigate is capable of air defense, surface and undersea warfare, surveillance, reconnaissance and interdiction. As the U.S. Navy's largest forward-deployed fleet, 7th Fleet employs 50-70 ships, like Tippecanoe, which is a fleet replenishment oiler, and submarines across the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans. U.S. 7th Fleet routinely operates and interacts with 35 maritime nations while conducting missions to preserve and protect a free and open Indo-Pacific Region. (U.S. Navy Photo by Martin Hanninen)
