SANTA RITA, Guam (Aug. 11, 2021) - U.S. Rep. Kaiali'i Kahele of Hawaii, met with U.S. Naval Base (NBG) Commanding Officer Capt. Michael Luckett and NBG Public Works Officer Cmdr. Nicholas Leinweber during a visit and tour of the installation, Aug. 10.
The congressman serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, one of the largest committees in Congress that has jurisdiction over all modes of transportation, and the Armed Services Committee, which has jurisdiction over U.S. defense policy, including ongoing military operations.
Kahele visited various NBG piers and wharves, including the ongoing construction improvements at Lima Wharf for heavy weather mooring and X-Ray Wharf where the first phase of construction for a future supply wharf has been completed.
Luckett and Kahele discussed future potential improvement projects regarding critical infrastructure including a need for repairs to Defense Access Road Route 5, leading to the Naval Magazine. They also talked about quality of life issues in support of personnel and their families, and ongoing and future military operations at NBG.
