U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Steven Criniti, left, a student with the Advanced Machine Gun Course 4-21, Infantry Unit Leaders Training Company, Advanced Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry - West, receives the first ever Lance Cpl. Irvin M. Ceniceros Award during the AMGC 4-21 graduation ceremony at the SOI-West, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, July 28, 2021. Ceniceros was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously for his actions against the enemy as a machine gun team leader with India Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 2, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, while deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2010. The instructors with AMGC and the Marines who served with Ceniceros created this award and intended it to be given to the Marine they would feel most comfortable serving with in a combat situation.
