An Italian Army Alpini mountain trainer assigned to the 6th Alpini Regiment examines a U.S. Army paratrooper in knot and rope techniques during the Alpini mountaineer training at Citta dev Sassi, Italy on June 17, 2021. The day exam consisted also of top rope (climbing a wall with boots), lead (climbing with shoes), and advance level access.

The paratroopers learn survival and trekking skills in an austere environment as part of a series of planned training events to enhance readiness and build allied interoperability between U.S. and Italian forces.
