The CAL FIRE blast fence at McClellan Air Tanker Base, Sacramento, Calif. This device either called a blast fence or jet blast deflector is a safety device that redirects the high energy exhaust from a jet engine to prevent damage and injury. The structure must be strong enough to withstand heat and high speed air streams as well as dust and debris carried by the turbulent air. Air National Guard C-130s and civilian air tankers are based here at McClellan Air Tanker Base, Sacramento, Calif. First Air Force (Air Forces Northern), U.S. Northern Command’s Air Component Command, is the DoD’s operational lead for the aerial military efforts. The USDA Forest Service activated the MAFFS-equipped Air Force C-130 aircraft June 26th through a DoD request for assistance.
