    Col. Cory Delger, U.S. Army Japan deputy chief of staff, and Col. Takahiro Tokudome, 陸上自衛隊 Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Northern Army, 4th Field Artillery Group commander, signed the memorandum of agreement permitting the use of the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) to live-fire at Yausubetsu Training Area during exercise Orient Shield 21-2 on June 28.
    The recent live-fire exercise, which was conducted by the 17th Field Artillery Brigade in conjunction with the JGSDF and aligns with U.S. firing protocol, marks the first long-range precision live fire in the history of Orient Shield.
    Orient Shield is the largest U.S. Army and Japan Ground Self-Defense Force bilateral field training exercise being executed in various locations throughout Japan to enhance interoperability and test and refine multi-domain and cross-domain operations.
