Derek Wolfe, the environmental deputy director for Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton, briefs representatives from Burns & McDonnell and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service about the environmental training provided for Marines and sailors on MCAS Camp Pendleton, California, June 17, 2021. The environmental office held the brief before a groundbreaking ceremony to help restore the habitat at Moosa Creek near Bonsall, California. The air station purchased the Moosa Creek site to offset the affected habitat lost clearing trees at the end of Runway 21. MCAS Camp Pendleton partnered with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, private firms and various local and federal agencies to complete this 10-year-long environmental project.
