Lt. Col. Heidi McKenna Schmitt, Marine Corps Base Hawaii base inspector, swims laps at the base pool, Sept. 14. McKenna Schmitt has competed in nine Ironman triathlons. To prepare for Ironman Canada, McKenna Schmitt cut gluten out of her diet, and swam, ran and biked throughout the week and on the weekends. She is competing in the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, on Oct. 13.
