U.S. Marines with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) prepare to board a MV-22 Osprey during a Non-Combatant Evacuation Operation (NEO) training exercise on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, May 21, 2021. This exercise was performed in conjunction with a simulated Embassy Reinforcement, allowing Marines to train together in order to improve efficiency and maintain readiness. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
