Meet Sgt. David Buemi, a Patriot launching station operator assigned to 5th Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery. Growing up in a household with a Marine father and Navy mother, Buemi is no stranger to the military lifestyle. “My father motivated me, since a child, to better myself,” Buemi said. “I wanted to keep the Family tradition going.”

Buemi has been enlisted for the past five years and has been using his military benefits to better himself through college and training junior Soldiers. “I’m working on my bachelors now,” he said. “The military is a great place to challenge yourself and become a better person.”

Buemi and his fellow unit members are currently deployed to an air base outside Zadar, Croatia. “This is my first time here,” he said. “It’s a beautiful country.” During his deployment, he will participate in combined training exercises with Croatian forces as part of DEFENDER-Europe 21, a large-scale U.S. Army-led exercise designed to build readiness and interoperability between U.S., NATO allies and partner militaries. This year more than 28,000 multinational forces from 26 nations will conduct nearly simultaneous operations across more than 30 training areas in more than a dozen countries from the Baltics to the strategically important Balkans and Black Sea Region.
