    A U.S. Army Soldier assigned to the Florida Army National Guard 53rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team helps unload baggage from a plane at the Tirana International Airport May 15, 2021, in Tirana, Albania. Troops from the 53rd IBCT will move to forward training areas where they will be participating in DEFENDER-Europe 21 exercises alongside host nation soldiers in order to demonstrate their ability to respond to any potential crisis in the region.
    DEFENDER-Europe 21 is a large-scale U.S. Army-led exercise designed to build readiness and interoperability between the U.S., NATO allies and partner militaries. This year, more than 28,000 multinational forces from 26 nations will conduct nearly simultaneous operations across more than 30 training areas in more than a dozen countries from the Baltics to the strategically important Balkans and Black Sea Region.
