GULF OF ALASKA (May 5, 2021) – U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Joseph Pion, left, a crew chief with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, performs a functional check flight on a CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 164 (Reinforced), 15th MEU, while Information Systems Technician Seaman Chad Erickson and Seaman Jakob Scott observe from behind him on the flight deck aboard the amphibious transport dock ship USS San Diego (LPD 22). The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group and the 15th MEU are currently conducting routine operations in the U.S. 3rd Fleet area of operations.
