U.S. Army Soldiers from Task Force Spartan and U.S. Air Force Airmen from the Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Division of Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve, participate in the annual “Roll Call for the Absent” at the Aggie Muster, April 21, 2021, at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. Muster is the Texas A&M tradition that forever unites the Aggies past with the Aggies present. No matter where Aggies are, whether it is a few as two or as many as the thousands who gather on the university’s campus, they come together each April 21 for the Muster. The first Muster was held on June 26, 1883 for former students to “…live over again our college days, the victories and defeats won and lost upon drill ground and classroom. Let every alumnus answer a roll call.” The tradition has continued since, and evolved during the World Wars to include a memoriam for those who were absent — Aggies have met in the trenches of Europe and at Army across America. “Muster is what I consider one of the greatest of the A&M traditions,” said Maj. Gen. Patrick Hamilton, the commanding general for Task Force Spartan and an Aggie Alumni. “It rekindles us with our roots at Texas A&M. This is number four Muster for me overseas. Every one of those has been really special because I was with Aggie friends.” (U.S. Army photo by Staff Sgt. Daryl Bradford, Task force Spartan Public Affairs)
