Sgt. Andrew Gonzales, 1st Battalion, 635th Armor Regiment and Spc. Nikolas Decker, 2nd Battalion, 130th Field Artillery, were named noncommissioned officer of the year and Soldier of the year, respectively, at the 2021 Kansas Army National Guard Best Warrior Competition held at the Great Plains Joint Training Center in Salina, Kansas, Mar. 17-21. Best Warrior assesses Soldiers’ abilities to competently execute basic soldier tasks, such as conducting medical evacuation, responding to a chemical attack, preforming land navigation, and overcoming multiple physical challenges.
