Soldiers from the 887th Engineer Battalion, out of Augusta, Ga., put together a tripod used for lifting people and equipment to a raised platform, Aug. 31, in Raleigh, N.C. The course the soldiers worked on is a 10,000 square-foot rubble pile used by civilian search-and-rescue teams. The soldiers are part of a search-and-rescue unit and were working side by side with civilian firefighters from Raleigh, Fayetteville and Cary, N.C., as a part of the Vigilant Guard training exercise. The soldiers and civilian first responders were able to learn from each other's techniques and experiences by working together during Vigilant Guard.
