Dr. James McConnell, horticultural researcher, inspects Vitex parviflora, also known as the molave tree, in the North Finegayan Forest Enhancement Site, February 25, 2021. Large canopies of Vitex parviflora outcompete native plant life. Marine Corps Base (MCB) Camp Blaz and the University of Guam’s Guam Plant Extinction Prevention Program are researching removal methods for Vitex parviflora and other invasive species on Guam and in the CNMI. This is the largest forest restoration effort in recorded history on Guam, covering over 1,000 acres of forest enhancement sites as part of MCB Camp Blaz’s commitment to a responsible military buildup process.
