The Unknown Soldier’s Tomb with Sentry at Arlington National Cemetery, circa 1932. The Unknown Soldier was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery on November 11, 1921. An honor guard has guarded the tomb 24 hours a day since 1937. Unknown soldiers from World War II and the Korean War were entombed in 1958 and from the Vietnam War in 1984 (the latter’s remains were exhumed, identified, and returned to family in 1998).
