Lantern Slide 16: Aqueduct Bridge and the C & O Canal, 1867. Open to canal traffic in 1843. It was first drained during the Civil War and used as a bridge. Rebuilt in 1888. Used until Key Bridge was completed in 1923. The Canal was begun in 1828 and completed to Cumberland in 1850. A total of $15,000.000 was spent on it.
