    31st Marine Expeditionary Unit       

    A Japanese Ground Self Defense Force (JGSDF) CH-47 Chinook Helicopter with 1st Transport Helicopter Group, 1st Helicopter Brigade, lands on amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) in the Philippine Sea, Jan. 31, 2021. This was the first time a JGSDF CH-47 has landed on an LHA 6. The 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit is operating aboard ships of the America Expeditionary Strike Group in the 7th fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
