Steel worker Petty Officer 2nd Class Samuel Rampton, Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 15, uses metal inert gas to weld frames late into the night. The frames will be used for grates to block culverts, denying access to insurgents, a favored site for improvised explosive device emplacement. The steel workers of what is often referred to as the "monster garage" average a 12-hour workday but have been known to put in up to 20-hour days in order to meet operational requirements. NMCB15 is part of nearly 1,100 Sailors and Marines supporting critical construction efforts in the Al Anbar province attached to the 30th Naval Construction Regiment.
