Marine Lt. Col. Matthew Day uses a Marine Ka-Bar knife to cut the ceremonial cake for the 232nd Marine Corps Birthday, on Contingency Operating Base Speicher, Nov. 9. Day is the team leader for the 2nd Region Border Transition Team, with the 1st Marine Division out of Camp Pendleton, Calif. It is customary to present the first pieces of cake to the guest of honor, and the oldest and youngest Marines present.
