Senior Airman Nicholas Fannin, an Aerospace Propulsion Technician with the 445th Maintenance Squadron, performs a burner blowout on a C-17 Globemaster III aircraft engine on January 9, 2021, at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. This process removes excess moisture from an aircraft’s engine, allowing it to maintain performance over time. This procedure, along with many others, are part of a Home Station Check, a maintenance function where 445th aircraft are inspected and given preventative maintenance. The 445th Maintenance Squadron and Aircraft Maintenance Squadron do multiple HSCs during the year to ensure that all aircraft remain mission ready. Both squadrons are part of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base’s 445th Airlift Wing, home to nine C-17 Globemaster III aircraft and nearly 2,000 Reserve Citizen Airmen.
