Congressional Gold Medals were awarded to Montford Point Marines by Maj. Gen. Ronald Bailey here Aug. 14. The Congressional Gold Medal is awarded to an individual who performs an outstanding deed or act of service to the security, prosperity, and national interest of the United States. The Montford Point Marines were the first African-American Marines to join the Marine Corps.
