SPANISH FORT, Ala. (Jan. 30, 2020) Cmdr. Roger Phelps, commanding officer of Navy Talent Acquisition Group New Orleans, takes a tour of the Mobile River where the wreck of the schooner Clotilda, believed to be the last known ship to bring African slaves to the U.S., was found in 2019. The recent discovery of the ship has brought with it the hope of revival to Africatown, a small community in Mobile, Ala., founded by African captives brought to the U.S. on the Clotilda. Recently, Navy Recruiting Command has conducted community service and volunteer projects to help further revitalize the town.
