U.S. Air Force 1st Lt. Ian Krug, a critical care nurse with the 59th Medical Wing, stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, augments the intensive care unit at the University Medical Center in El Paso, Texas, Nov. 14, 2020. Krug says he has been seeing similar patient loads in El Paso to what he saw in San Antonio and is proud to bring the experience he gained there to help another community struggling with a surge of COVID-19. He, along with approximately 60 service members, are working jointly with the civilian hospitals to assist in the mitigation of the virus and help citizens in need. U.S. Northern Command, through U.S. Army North, remains committed to providing flexible Department of Defense support to the Federal Emergency Management Agency in support of the whole-of-America COVID-19 response.
