    Brig. Gen. Leslie Smith (second from right), commanding general, 20th Support Command, visits the Soldiers of Nuclear Disablement Team 2, and augmentees from Chemical Response Team 1, both 20th Spt. Cmd. (CBRNE), July 30 during Vibrant Response 13, a major incident exercise conducted by U.S. Northern Command and led by U.S. Army North. The soldiers conducted 24-hour operations July 26-31 at Jefferson Proving Grounds, Ind., to collect simulated radioactive debris samples quickly and to process, prepare and package the evidence for transport to national laboratories. The soldiers, along with airmen, special agents from the FBI scientists from the Department of Energy, make up the National Technical Nuclear Forensics Ground Collections Task Force. Although the soldier shown are armed with M9 9mm semiautomatic pistols for security, typically, the soldiers are not “armed” unless under a threat. These soldiers are armed as part of the task force exercise.
