PHILIPPINE SEA (Oct. 7, 2020) Gunnery Sgt. Jason Darby, a tiltrotor crew chief with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262 (Reinforced), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), receives a gift during a corporal’s course graduation ceremony aboard amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6). Corporal’s course is a 3-week long professional military education class designed to teach Marine corporals the fundamentals of being a noncommissioned officer and the leadership skills necessary to lead Marines. America, flagship of Expeditionary Strike Group 7, along with the 31st MEU, is operating in the 7th fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
