Downed utility poles as far as the eye can see in Lake Charles the morning after Hurricane Laura on Aug 27, 2020. Lake Charles had sustained winds of ninety-eight miles per hour that night. Laura was a category four hurricane and tied the 1856 Last Island hurricane as the strongest on record by maximum sustained wind speeds to make landfall in Louisiana.
