    EAST CHINA SEA (Sept. 19, 2020) U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Hunter Shields (left), an infantry Marine and a native of Mount Vernon, Illinois sprays water as Lance Cpl. Jayden Stuessel (right), a machine gunner and a native of Fairfield, Illinois, both with Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) holds the hose during a fresh water washdown aboard dock landing ship USS Germantown (LSD 42). Freshwater wash downs help prevent saltwater corrosion and buildup of sediment after extended days at sea. Germantown, part of the America Amphibious Ready Group (ARG), 31st MEU team, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
