U.S. Naval Forces Europe Band Musician 3rd Class Justin Lerma plays the sousaphone during a rehearsal for the massed military band portion of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. NAVEUR Band assistant director Ensign Christopher Cornette said the sousaphone is a perfect instrument for marching due to its design that fits the body of the musician and supports the left shoulder, allowing the sousaphone to be readily and easily played while marching. This military tattoo brings together musicians, dancers and bagpipers from around the world to perform in Europe’s most prestigious military tattoo and this year marks the first time since 1950 that a Navy band has performed in the show.
