NMCB-3, 9th ESB Conduct Expeditionary Bridging Exercise

200927-N-TP832-1281 OKINAWA, Japan (Sept. 27, 2020) Marines assigned to Bridge Company, 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, demonstrate how to connect Improved Ribbon Bridge (IRB) bays to Cmdr. Jonathan Nieman, commanding officer of U.S. Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 3, and staff during a bridging exercise at Naha Military Port in Okinawa, Japan. IRBs provide a wet-gap crossing capability either as a floating bridge or as a multi-bay raft for tracked and wheeled vehicles. NMCB-3 is deployed across the Indo-Pacific region conducting high-quality construction to support U.S. and partner nations to strengthen partnerships, deter aggression, and enable expeditionary logistics and naval power projection.
