Traverse City, Mich., native Col. Dan Shanahan, commander of the 1st Air Cavalry Brigade "Warriors," 1st Cavalry Division, bends down to attach golden spurs to the boots of Pittsburg, Pa., native Spc. Richard Clawson, a human resources specialist for the 1st ACB, during a spur ceremony at Camp Taji, Iraq, Oct. 29. Clawson, along with the others who donned their spurs will be headed back to the states soon as the rest of the Warriors finish up their 15 month deployment. Clawson said he is "going to take it one day at a time" and "spend time with the family" when he returns home. The gold spurs indicate a Soldier has deployed to a war zone as a member of a cavalry unit; they're worn during ceremonies and special events along with the Stetson.
