SAN DIEGO (Aug. 4, 2020) Hospitalman Angela Mello, a general duty corpsman assigned to Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) (left), and Ens. Kaitlyn Leibing, a staff nurse assigned to one of NMCSD’s internal medicine wards (right), don 3D-printed face shields, donated to the hospital by Southwest Regional Maintenance Center, before entering a coronavirus (COVID-19)-positive, non-critical patient’s room Aug. 4. Face shields, N95 respirator masks, gloves and gowns are some of the personal protective equipment required to enter COVID-19-patient spaces. NMCSD’s mission is to prepare service members to deploy in support of operational forces, deliver high quality healthcare services and shape the future of military medicine through education, training and research. NMCSD employs more than 6,000 active duty military personnel, civilians, and contractors in Southern California to provide patients with world-class care anytime, anywhere.
