Ford-Cotes was already on the ground waiting for 2-106 CAV Soldiers to arrive, and protected Army equipment by not wearing headgear or facemasks that could be drawn into helicopter rotors. 2-106 CAV is training and validating with 5th Armored Brigade in preparation for their deployment with 2nd Battalion, 135th Infantry Regiment, Minnesota National Guard to the AFRICOM area of operations.
