Professional Regard and Personable Appreciation...Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command (NMRTC) Bremerton Nursing Services directorate staff, led by Lt. Kaitlyn Harmon, present Capt. Johannes Bailey a keepsake of their collective respect for their outgoing director. During Bailey's tenure trio of being assigned 2000-04, 2012-2015 and 2017 to the present, nurses at Naval Hospital Bremerton and NMRTC Bremerton have continually provided compassion, competence and care to treat those in need. The past year offers a synopsis of his leadership skill, guiding, directing and mentoring staff, from them deploying on such assignments as annual Pacific Partnership and Continuing Promise humanitarian assistance and civic action missions, to ably assisting with nursing documentation and training with DoD's new electronic health record, MHS GENESIS, as well as engaging in cross-service resource sharing, and supporting clinical instruction for corpsmen in Trauma Training, along with bolstering the command's Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Examiner program by ensuring nurses were qualified to respond if ever needed. From the 499 births - a monthly average of 41 - last year in Labor and Delivery to 1,116 Newborn Care Clinic appointments, an average of 93 per month, along with 310 Multi Service Unit admission and another 1,121 in the Ambulatory Procedure Unit, Nursing Services was seemingly everywhere, providing patient-centered care before, during and after for every beneficiary. Yet Bailey also ensured that his staff were given the necessary tools, time, and teaching to continue to grow in their career. Harmon is but one of the latest examples of those assigned to Bailey's directorate who have been empowered to advance their career and Navy Medicine knowledge. Harmon, along with Lt. j.g. Tefany Gonzalez, both recently returned from helping stop the spread of COVID-19 in Los Angeles and New York respectively, have been selected from a highly competitive group of Navy Nurse Corps officer candidates across Navy Medicine for the Perioperative Nurse Training.
