A group of U.S. Army soldiers in ACU (Army Combat Uniform) camouflage are conducting a mortar firing exercise on a hillside training range. A mortar round is visibly in flight above the tube with propellant smoke billowing from the weapon. Multiple soldiers are engaged in the firing sequence, with one soldier on the right holding what appears to be a training round with a blue tip.

Mortarmen from the Puerto Rico National Guard, 1st Battalion, 296th Infantry Regiment, 101st Troop Command, hone their skills during a "fire for effect" exercise at Camp Santiago Joint Maneuver Training Center, July 12. The soldiers of 101st TC are currently undergoing their annual training in which Army warrior tasks, battle drills and training related to their military occupational skills are put into practice, in order to maintain proficiency and be familiar with the equipment they will handle in the event of a deployment.
