Staff Sgt. Adam Spates, a petroleum supply specialist with Company A, 248th Aviation Support Battalion, Iowa Army National Guard, oversees operations of a mobile food pantry in support of Hawkeye Area Community Action Program at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on May 15, 2020. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, HACAP’s mobile food pantry served around 100 families and individuals during an average operation, but the demand increased during the pandemic to more than 20 times what it had been. The greater pressure on local programs to assist their communities during the pandemic meant that the support of the Iowa National Guard was vital. (U.S. Army National Guard photo by Cpl.
