HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass.—On a raw spring day in Plymouth, Mass., soldiers from the Mass. National Guard prepare to carry out COVID-19 testing at a long term care facility, May 1, 2020. As of May 1, 2020, teams of guardsmen, led by a combat medic and a decontamination specialist, have conducted more than 22,110 tests at 515 locations. In addition to testing for cases of COVID-19, the Mass. National Guard is augmenting the staff of medical facilities, carrying out law enforcement duties, and providing logistical support all in an effort to fight the effects of pandemic. (Mass.
