“Going in I kind of knew I would have to kind of work a little bit harder at everything just because being 17 or 18 or even in your 20s and going into basic training as opposed to being 30 and going into basic training, it’s different. I think emotional and mentally it was a lot smoother and easier ride for me than some of the other kids that were in there with me. But physically, oh my god, physically it was demanding. There were nights that I would go to sleep and I would be like, ‘oh my god, what are you doing? Are you sure this is what you want to do?’ But I like the challenge and I think that’s part of the reason why I enjoy the job so much. There’s not a day that I’m not challenging myself and pushing myself to go a little bit further than the day prior. So that to me is fulfilling and gives me a purpose.”
