(April 20, 2020) John Burgard, a safety officer from California Medical Assistance Team (CAL-MAT) performs a fit test of a N-95 Mask at a skilled nursing facility on Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Xavier Quintanilla, from Gainesville, Ga., assigned to the hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19). Mercy is deployed in support of the nation’s COVID-19 response efforts. One of the Department of Defense’s missions is Defense Support of Civil Authorities. DoD is supporting the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the lead federal agency, as well as state, local and public health authorities in helping protect the health and safety of the American people.
