EAST CHINA SEA (April 23, 2020) Marines with Alpha Company, Battalion Landing Team (BLT), 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), utilize riot shields and Mossberg 500 series pump action shotguns while conducting riot control training aboard the Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship USS Germantown (LSD 42). Marines with Alpha Company, BLT 1/5, 31st MEU, conducted training with non-lethal tactics and equipment to maintain readiness for a variety of scenarios while underway. Germantown, part of the America Expeditionary Strike Group, 31st MEU team, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
