200417-N-QV265-1002 PHILIPPINE SEA (April 17, 2020) – A mariner aboard USNS Richard E. Byrd (T-AKE 4) prepares to rig a supply hook to an MH60-S helicopter from the “Golden Falcons” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 12 during a vertical underway replenishment (VERTREP) with U.S. 7th Fleet flagship, USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19). U.S. Navy ships at sea conduct events like VERTREPs to deliver essential parts, food and mail needed to keep the fleet on mission. Blue Ridge is the oldest operational ship in the Navy and, as 7th Fleet command ship, actively works to foster relationships with allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific region.
