191206-N-N0701-0001 NORFOLK (Dec. 6, 2019) A screenshot highlights the area of the globe subject to detailed marine resources protective measures within the U.S. 6th and 7th Fleet areas of operations. Prior to fiscal year 2019, detailed Protective Measures Assessment Protocol (PMAP) coverage was limited to traditional fleet training areas within the coastal waters of U.S., Hawaii, Guam, and Japan. PMAP provides ships, submarines, and aircraft squadrons with locations of sensitive marine resources, and required protective measures that enable fleet units to conduct sonar and ordnance training and testing at-sea in compliance with U.S. Navy permits.
