Cryogenic Oxygen Methane Explosion Test (COMET) conducted February and March, 2020 at Dugway Proving Ground.
Testers purposely ignited fuel tanks containing liquid oxygen and liquid natural gas -- a newer and far less costly type of rocket fuel -- to determine the extent and severity of a blast during a launch. This data will aid the design of safer launch sites with the new propellant.
